The parachute it held by the children, so that it is ready to be “mushroomed”. Each child has been named as a fruit or vegetable. No more than five should be used in any one game.

If it is the turn to play with fruit, then the children are named as Banana, Apple, Orange, Pineapple or Lemon. If it is Vegetable game then the names could be, Carrot, Bean, Pea, Potato, Cabbage.

The parachute is mushroomed and the teacher calls out one fruit or vegetable such as “Lemon” and all children who are lemons cross over under the mushroomed parachute trying to get to the other side before the parachute collapses. If the teacher calls out “Fruit” or “Vegetable”, depending on which kind of game is being played, everyone tries to cross over before the parachute’s collapse. (The children should be warned about hurting each other by bumping as the cross under the parachute.)
