Parachute Activities Parachute Sums
The parachute is laid on the floor with numbers stuck on it round the circle near the edge. Children sit round the edge, each one opposite one of the numbers. The teacher calls out a pair of numbers like “2 and 3”. The children make up sums using those numbers. If your number makes up a sum, you stand up and give the answer, which you have worked out. If your number is 6 you could say 2 times 3 equals 6. Or if your number was 5 you stand and say, 2 plus 3 equals 5. Or if your number was 1 you could stand and says 3 minus 2 equals 1. The teacher asks the rest of the children if they have thought of any more answers. The children then stand and move clockwise round the parachute four places, so that they have to think of different numbers.
