Parachute Activities

Popcorn

Lots of small foam balls are required for this game.

First of all the parachute is laid on the floor and becomes the cooking pan. The children kneel around the edge of the parachute holding on to the edge with both hands.

The teacher gets the children to make noises of a sizzling pan and gets them to start shaking the parachute gently.

The balls (popcorn) are thrown into the pan and the children stand up and the parachute is shaken vigorously.

The popcorn shoots of in all directions.

Once all the balls have flown off, the teacher gets the children to fetch the balls and then return to the edge of the parachute and start the game again. This time the children can throw in the balls themselves.

This is an excellent game for sharing and co-operating.

An extention to the game is to split the group into two teams, one team shakes the parachute and pops the popcorn and the other team collects the balls as quickly as possible and throws them back in the pan. After a minute the game can stop and see how many balls are still in the pan.

The teams can then change places.
