Old Jonesey
A piece of writing linked to verb activities
It is probably a good idea to give every child a copy.
Before (shared) reading this discuss what verbs are and their role in sentences,
e.g. a sentence must have a verb;
some verbs are phrasal;
verbs have tenses.
Ask the children to guess how many verbs they'll find before they read it.
Read Old Jonesey with the children and ask them to underline any verbs or discuss and note on the blackboard.
On the following page, this story opening is repeated, but all verbs are highlighted in blue.
Did the children spot every verb?
