Within the general Design and Technology area children are able to find lots of information and activities relating to crafts, materials, tools and structures. There are links to many external Design and Technology-related websites including Lego, Babloo and a range of other relevant websites containing projects and resources suitable for Key Stage 2 learning.
The Structures area of the KS2 Design and Technology section includes a collection of interactive activities and projects. The fun projects encourage children to make their own structures including a pinhole camera, a tubal roller coaster, a spaghetti glider, a straw tower and a sun clock.
The Textiles area includes a variety of textile-related Design and Technology projects including making a puppet, an egg cosy and a money container.
Children are also able to enhance their knowledge of Food through a range of information, facts and activities relating to healthy eating, the history of food, genetic modification, food safety and nutrition. There are a number of simple recipes for children, such as making bread and sandwiches, as well as information about the importance of eating five-a-day.
In the Control Mechanisms area children are able to learn all about amusement parks, including how they work, and are even able to try to build one. They are also able to learn how different inventions work, including learning about pendulum clocks, fireworks, pneumatic mechanisms and machines. The Control Mechanisms section also includes information and activities relating to building a robo-copter, building a siege engine, dissembling a torch, creating a spinning top and many more fun activities suitable for children at Key Stage 2 level.
Within the Design area children are able to print off a number of worksheets to help with their design projects. These include designing a playground, a classroom, a mechanism and a structure. There are also some design tips from a Design and Technology student.
The resources and activities in the KS2 Design and Technology section are in an interactive, online, or printable format that brings a differing dynamic to the subject for children studying at Key Stage 2.
