Parachute Activities Follow the Leader
This game can be played either standing on the outer edge of the parachute, or sitting under it as a Tent. The leader begins by starting a chant, which has a rhythm to it. It can be as simple or as complicated as you like to make it, e.g. “two, three follow me”, or “c-c-catch the cat, hot potato, old straw hat”. When you have decided on the chant, everyone says it together to get the rhythm going. Introduce clapping to the rhythm so that everyone is busy, chanting and clapping. The leader introduces a new action, e.g. tapping feet in time to the rhythm, which the person to their left picks up at the next chant and passes on to the person on their left at the beginning of the next chant. The leader introduces new actions, which get passed around on each chant. You need a lot of actions, so don’t forget you can touch the person next to you, swing them round, back to back, slap hands, have a hug and so on. When you want to stop, re-introduce clapping. Keep chanting and clapping until all the actions have passed around the circle and everyone is doing the same thing.
