Parachute Activities

Earth and Moon

With this game the children will learn how to work as a team and co-operate with each other.

Two balls are placed on the parachute and the idea is to get the balls moving around the outer edge of the parachute in opposite directions with each child controlling their portion of the parachute.

The centre of the parachute is the Sun and one ball is the Earth and the other is the Moon.

The first ball which is the Earth is sent around the Sun and once the children have this working the second ball which is the Moon is sent in the opposite direction.

Different sized balls would work really well.

The children will learn when to lift their edge and when to lower it to help the balls travel.

The children stand around the edge of the parachute and hold the edge with both hands at waist height and once the balls are in play their job is to keep the balls moving and in the circle.

The teacher will need to explain which direction the balls are to travel i.e. clockwise or anti-clockwise.

The children will soon get the idea with practice.

This game could be extended by having more balls moving around i.e. more planets etc.
