Parachute Activities

Making Bread

The idea of this game is to have half the group lying on the floor face up under the parachute with their feet nearest to the centre like spokes of a wheel.

The other half of the group gently waft the parachute over those lying on the ground.

After the fanning the teacher shouts out "Let's make bread" and all the fanners let the parachute fall on top of the players lying down and kneel around the outside of the parachute.

At this point the children can talk about what ingredients are needed to make bread.

The teacher then shouts "Knead the dough" and the children around the edge walk carefully and find 'dough' that needs kneading. This is children carefully tickling the other children under the parachute.

Once kneaded the teacher shouts out "Let's see if the dough will rise" and the children return to the edge of the parachute.

The players under the parachute will start to rise and if they don't they will require more kneading.

After a period of time the kneaders can have a go at lying down and swap places and become the dough.

This is a game of trust and involves touching.

The kneaders need to be very careful and gentle with the dough.
