KS2 English EN3 Writing 4b
NLS Y3 T2 W12
With this activity children are asked to generate compound words. They should begin to recognise how this strategy can support their spelling.
A compound word is made up of two shorter words which have been joined together.
Have a go at making your own compound words using the words in the shapes below. Can you match a word from the square with a word from the triangle? The first half of each word has been done for you.
For example - farm + yard = farmyard
1. pan + ? bowfishyardsideballhousecake----------------------------
2. rain + ? bowfishyardsideballhousecake----------------------------
3. star + ? bowfishyardsideballhousecake----------------------------
4. foot + ? bowfishyardsideballhousecake----------------------------
5. sea + ? bowfishyardsideballhousecake----------------------------
6. light + ? bowfishyardsideballhousecake----------------------------
Remember, to make a compound word always write the two words next to each other.
Why not have a go at the next activity - Compound Challenger.
